Help 124 Cargo Cover Removal

I need help removing the cargo cover from a 1991-300TE 4Matic Jim

pifcat2 02-12-2010 05:02 PM

What's the problem, it should slide out the rear door with the seats forward?

Cargo Net etc.

It looks like the cargo cover is attached to the back of the middle row of seats. Can't find any fasteners that are holding the cargo cover in place??? How do I access them.??? Once the cargo cover is lose I am sure I can remove it out the rear cargo hatch. What am I missing??

It's held by two slider brackets. Lay the seat backs down (forward) and push the roller assembly to the left side and lift up.

Cargo Cover

Are you saying to lay the seat backs down first and then remove the cargo covers or remove the cargo covers first and then lay the seat backs down.
Today is my duh day I guess... Anyhow I appreciate all your help... Jim

retract the covers into the assembly, put the rear seats down, and slide the assembly out. See the last page of this pdf.

Cargo Cover

Thank you for all your help. One last question. Where are the levers that will allow the seats to lay forward... Jim

it's a round button in the door jamb

Your Mercedes dealer can still sell you an owners manual for your car.

Or, you can call 800.for.merc to obtain one.

IMHO it strains the good will of Internet forums to ask questions that can be answered by looking at owners manual.

Looking at your car before posting is a good idea, too, as it's OBVIOUS that the cover isn't going to slide to the left with the seatback up.

Helplessness is NOT endearing.

A bit harsh.

I'm pretty sure yours is the same as my 94 Wagon ...

The round button in the door jam is only a safety lock. When door is closed, the seat back is locked. Otherwise seat should move as described below.

The back seat is a 3 step process.

1] Remove head rest by pulling it up. When it stops there is a 1 cm button [hidden] under the head rest IN the top of the seat cushion. Push the button to release the head rest.

2] With door open there is a black plastic grooved finger latch at bottom of seat cushion [part you butt sits on], lift up and the cushion will swing forward to vertical.

3] Grasp the top of the seat back [the part your back rests on] and pull forward. It should lay flat with locating holes onto the pins holding the seat cushion.

IMPORTANT If seat back has not been exercised [used] you may have to lay in the cargo area and place your heels onto the seat back, retract your knees to chin and do a ninja kick. [Brutal, but effective.] Regardless, severely lube all the latches. It's major surgery to remove the seat back when stuck in the upright position.

PS Don't get concerned with comments regarding "consulting the user manual" or doing a "search" before posting a question. Many don't have a user manual and the "search" function can be frustrating when you don't know the keywords to use. When you hang around here long enough, you'll learn the tricks and start helping others.

[If you want to remove seat cushion, lift up on red center latch and it will slide up on pins. When reinstalling make sure pin sleeves & pins are centered correctly. It should slide easily. The pins and brackets are often bent from incorrect operation. Be gentle with them.
