W124 Cab Hydraulic Cylinder Removal Questions

I am trying to remove the cylinder shown as #3 on the diagram. The top is accessible after removing the seat and interior trim. I believe this cylinder extends into the body cavity in front of the wheel well, I can feel fluid on the bottom portion and see the top of the cylinder leaking. There is a third hydraulic line that attaches at the bottom and I can see the two other lines going up.

I have found a #40 Torx behind a rubber plug that seems to be holding the cylinder in, I have not been able to budge it so far but am trying to make sure that is what I need to remove and not the entire soft top assembly. Almost all of the write-ups are for the R129, I asked Dennis Ficken but he could help on this.

Sorry it's a hard area to take pic in. The piston at the top of the cylinder is visible if you raise the cover at the rear and move the back of soft top up.

It is # 17 on the screen shot from the EPC. I am trying to remove it, I can unhook it at the top but I am not sure what is really holding it in. Also you can see it on the diagram for the hydraulic lines Thanks

Update with success

First, I was wrong about the cylinder that needed to be removed, it is #20 on the EPC diagram, it is behind the large cylinder that extends into the body cavity in front of the rear wheel well.

If any of you need to remove it, it's a pita but do able especially with a helper. The top is attached by a circlip, easy to do when the top is partly open, keep the rear cover open.

The cylinder is attached at the bottom by a 5 mm hex nut. It faces out towards the body. I had to use a mirror to see it at first. We struggling to get anything in there until d'oh I raised that rear window. A person with smaller hands than me can fit a rachet with a 5mm socket attached. The bolt takes a while to get out and someone needs to hold the rear of the top up. If you have a small angle rachet it would be easier.

Once it is free we removed the two hydraulic lines, first pull off the clips and then the lines come off with some nudging. Remember the two lines must be put back in their right places, the lines have numbers that correspond to the numbers on the cylinder.

I will do the other side tomorrow, all that you need to remove is the side interior trim piece, not what is behind it as I originally thought. Then I am going to remove the 2 easily accessible cylinders in the trunk and send them to Dennis Ficken.

Thought I would share since I know those cylinders have given others trouble in the past.
