1997 E320 Door Jamb switch

Need to replace drivers side switch. will receive new one in a day or two. Does the switch remove from outside the jamb, or does the inside panel have to be removed?

ive not have to replace the switch yet, though it has given me problems.
eventually, it will need to be pulled and swapped out. i know you can see
it clearly once the huge weather seal/gasket on the door frame is pulled out.
but the opening was very shallow and did not appear (to my eyeball) to
allow the plunger switch to be removed unless more space was gained.

this switch is inherently weak and poorly designed and is the cause for
other related ailments so it's fortunate that the cost for this part is low,
about < $20 US.

this is shot for the right side front door. obviously the inside liner will need
to be unfastened. FYI, vast majority of the problems related to the door
switch/plunger occur to the front, driver's side switch. it is the one most
used.

Raymond,
Many thanks for the info and help. I received the new OEM switch and from its design, it looks to need to be released from the inside-out, then re-installed from outside the frame and snapped into place. I didn't want to pull the ol' bull in a china cabinet routine and really make a mess!

when you've successfully swapped it out, let me/us know how you did. the
info will help others since this is a frequent failure
