717 Transmission Gears

Hello,

I sent my transmission from a 1984 190E 2.3 to be resealed, and the guy told me the gear and synchro for gear 4 is worn down. he says I can use it still, but since its apart in his hands, I dont mind getting the gear and synchro replaced if its worth the price.

I am trying to find the part number in the EPC, but ironically, I can find the part number for all the gears except 4. can anyone tell me which one it is in this picture?

Gears
1: 124 262 0011
2: 123 262 0412
3: 124 262 0013
4: ?
5: 124 262 0215

That is because 4th gear isn't in that picture.

4th gear is the input shaft that goes into the clutch.

The gear NEVER goes bad, only the syncro hub & syncro ring goes bad.

i went to go see the transmission today, and the guy showed me the parts he thought could be a slight problem.

he said that this gear had some wearing on the inside, and I looked. there were slight small scratches on the inside in between the teeth, and there was some sort of line forming on the side of each teeth. but other than that, it looked fine. hard to get a photo of it:

synchros look ok:

I guess I'll just reseal and throw this sucker in the car.

The end shown in the photo is for 5th & reverse gears.

Again, 4th gear is the input shaft that goes into the clutch.

how worn can a synchro ring be until it is considered "bad"? to the point where the outside is completely smooth or is there a different way to visually inspect it?

I think my synchros look alright, they all looked in the same condition so I'm considering to just put it all back together, run it in the car and give it a try. if it grinds or shifts bad, then probably get new synchro rings/bodys and bearings as a small rebuild.
