2001 E430 air mass meter

Gentleman, I recently had my check engine light come on with this car. The dealer says it's the AMM. So i purchased one not from the dealer, a Bosch, and want to now if the replacement is something I can do or should my mechanic make the change.
If I can do this, please advise how.
Thank you
Steve Dale

Should take less than 1/2 hour. Suggest you get a seal ring as well.

Mounts directly beneath the air filter assembly.

Did you get it on eBay? Many BOSCH clones (from China) on eBay but don't work well if at all.

As pointed out, very easy to do. Don't touch any of the exposed electronics as you don't want to transfer oils from your skin.

Start by removing engine top cover. I think you'll find your MAF in the duct leading out of the air filter housing. It's 3-4" dia and you'll see a wire going into the side next to the intake manifold.

First compress the sides of the electrical connector. You have to get a good grip and press them in fully. Also, a little wiggling might help to disconnect it.

Then the unit can be removed by loosening the hose clamp on one end and releasing to spring loaded hooks at the other. If you bought the whole unit, just reverse for installation.

If you bought the insert it can be removed by removing the two fasteners. These are probably Torx Plus Security (TS45 w/hole in center). If you don't have a bit like that (Pepboys has a set for about $15) you can usually grip the edge of the 'washer head' fastener with pliers or vicegrips and turn carefully.

Thanks for the response. Yes i did purchase the unit on Ebay, but from a U.S. distributor with a 1 yr warranty.
I will do the installation myself and save my mechanic the time and me the money.
Thanks again.
