400E tie rod ends Has anyone done the tie rod end replacement and know what threads (L or R) I should be ordering for left & right tie rod ends on my 1992 400E? Parts from Fastlane listed as: 1. Right;;Left Hand Thread;w/ left hand Threads for right Tie Rod 2. Right;;Right Hand Thread 3. Left;;Left Hand Thread;w/ left hand Threads for left Tie Rod 4. Left;;Right Hand Thread;w/ Right Hand Threads for Left Tie Rod Thanks, L |

You'd probably be ahead of yourself to just replace them as entire assemblies, unless there something about the 400e that is atypical from any other w124... |

Thanks for the tip. The tie rod ends are cheaper (approx. $35 each) and the rest of the assembly (approx $70 each) is still in good condition, so I was thinking of just doing the ends. Napa has it listed as: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 400E Comments: w/ Right Hand Threads Per Car Qty: 2 So both left and right would have right hand threads, Is this correct? |

Yeah, each tie rod has two ends with opposite threads, so they can be adjusted without removing anything. |

Look at the assembly and you'll see an inner and outer end on each side - the shorter part is the inner one. Given that they are both wearable ball joints, it probably makes sense to replace them both (or the assembly). |
