Cold Air Intake
Im sorry if this in the wrong section.
I own a 1987 E300(the one with 3.0L inline 6 cyl) and I was wondering if there was a way to get a cold air intake? or if someone custom makes them? I have alot of room in the engine bay and it seems like it would benefit my car. I also love my first car/benz alot :D Thanks. |
Your car came with a cold-air intake from the factory.

You don't understand what a CAI is otherwise you'd know it already has one. This topic has been beat to death if you do some searching. Without doing some custom work to the intake itself, no intake variation will make a difference at all. Just keep a nice clean OEM filter and leave it alone. The M103 is a great engine, but to make power, other than a higher flowing exhaust, your only "real" options are an engine swap or a Twin Turbo setup ($7500-$16000)

Factory intake can be improved by adding a K an N filter. Then enlarge air opening in front. My S320 I inlarged opening plus drilled four holes in bottom for rain drainage.
|
Yeah I have a K&N filter in it, I was just wondering if there was any mods i could do that could add power. Isn't that giant air box different than a CIA though? Thanks for the help. a TT would be out of the question haha. but it is definitely a fast car.

The only really big improvement you can make to the intake is getting rid of Kjet.
|
Umm ill have to take a closer look at the motor. What exactly is the kjet? Thanks for all the helpful responses

hmm I wonder how long it would take to switch. Do you have an idea on what would change if i did change it? My dad is pretty good with cars so maybe that could be a project we did. Is it costly? im gonna look it up as well.

Do a search on Megasquirt. You will find all the info you need.

I just looked at the air filter system a few mins ago. I never noticed the air scoop! haha. Thanks. Im not sure if ill do the megasquirt converstion, I would love to do a exhaust change though. Does anyone know a parts seller that sells exhaust headers? thats def. one thing i want to change because they are so old. But i would really love to try to either buy a exhaust system to see if someone could custom make one. I think the car would benefit from a higher flowing system with cats and stuff.
doing a turbo conversion just seems really complicated/pricey. |
Custom headers are going to cost you a lot of money too...
Just get the precats replace with a test pipe and put a high flow cat downstream in place of the OEM...You'll gain ~10-13hp. |
Do you know the specifications of the what exhaust system would fit on it? Sorry if i ask so many newbie questions lol.
