Manual Climate on 126 Series?

Hi All, I've been a lurker here for a few years, and have absorbed a lot from you all. My question, were there any 1981-91 126 sedans made with manual climate controls? Thanks for your help! John

Yes, but they are all cruising around in every country except the USA. ;)

Thanks for your reply! I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a U.S. model. I really do not like auto climate controls but like the W126 sedans and would love to have one without this feature. JR

No W126 had fully manual climate control. The "basic" system was semi automatic and still regulated temperature itself. Fan speed and direction were set manually. No US spec W126 has the semi automatic system.

"compu 85" is 100% correct.. never a maual system on the W126 chassis

you do see em in the junkyard from time to time, but it would be a chore and a half to retrofit!

Fixing the climate control system to work as advertised is a ***** the first time you try it, but now that I understand it well, it's actually fairly straightforward. It's all about vacuum pods that leak and bad solder joints and a monovalve element every now and then.

I like my euro-style semi-auto version. It gives me more options to direct air and have a dual zone than the full-auto system.

Wow, lots of good information. When it is time to purchase a W126 I will just study up on the operation of the system make sure everything is up to par. Thanks everyone for your help!!!

The dual zone feature is nice, that is one thing I wish the early fully automatic systems could do.

What the heck does that switch between the hazard and rear light do? Never seen that one before.

The switch first from the left? If so, that's a sunroof switch. My 500SEC euro has that same logo on it's switch.

I consider the one where you can set fan speed and direction manually....pretty much manual. :D Lack of fan speed control is one of my biggest issues with the W126 climate control.....it is better on the W124, but still annoying.
