W210 shock replacement
Hey guys!
Time for new shocks on the W210 and was wondering if anyone had any comments on the Bilsteins. HD or Sport variation?? Thanks in advance. |
How do I know if I need the self-leveling version??

HDs have dampening rate which are noticeably stiffer than OEM. so if you
are looking for firmer control, this should do the trick. your car should not have had the ride height altered any more than 1.25-1.5" as these are OEM length shock replacements. Sport shocks from Bilstein are designed for cars which have had their springs replaced with 1.5"+ shorter design, e.g. H&R, Eibachts, Vogtland, etc lowering springs. If you car has not been lowered, do *not* buy these shocks. |
Thanks Raymond.

oops, i neglected to mention that the Sport shocks have the same dampening
rate as the HD. they are shorter by 1.5~ inches when uncompressed. it has been said, anecdotally, that the HD and Sport shocks are firmer by approx 10% over OEM plush ride. having had hands on with both Bilstein models and OEM, I would concur.....maybe even a scootch more than 10% but that's based on my seat of pants measure. |
