190e brake rotor
 

I'm trying to replace the front rotor on MY 91 190e that I just purchased. The lock screw that holds the rotor in placed is broken off. The head of the screw is missing and preventing the rotor to be removed. Can someone give me some ideas how to remove the broken screws?

Drill baby drill! If the head is missing and the rotor won't come off, then it might be stuck. Shoot some liquid wrench in there to loosen things up.

drill it down so there is no more head then take a hammer to that bad boy to get it off.

I was able to get one side out using a 4lb sledge hammer. It still took a good an hour to knock it out. I'm not working on the driver side and still a pain. I've already put over an hour of pounding a still no luck. I might punch the 2 dowel sleeves out it might help. Also I'll try pit the rotor from front. Thanks for all your help.

I'm successful getting the rotors out. Now I found a new problem the hand break is stuck and I'm unable to remove the rear rotors. Does anyone have a suggestion how to get the hand break to release so I can take the rotor off?

you can get the rotors off by just pulling really hard but you will ruin the shoes and damage the handbrake springs. (aka you;ll need new parts)

other than that, take out your console and press in the ends of the cables as much as you can to see if that frees them.

Is there a way to loosen the adjuster from behind? I looked but can find a hole for adjustment. On my Porsche it has a hole from the front that the adjuster can be loosen or tighten. I want to try this before forcing it off.

There are ZERO springs/shoes behind a *FRONT* brake rotor.

It's probably rusted on tight. THe little screw only keeps it in place till the wheels are attached. They are nice, but you could live without it.

They shouldn't be so tight around the hub- sounds like rust. Soak and may end up needing the blue wrench to get them off. Never experience it, but heard stores from costal and areas which salt their roads.

If your beating them off with such force- you should replace the wheel brgs at the same time.

I appreciate your help but I already have the front off. The rears are the ones I'm having problems now. Let me know if you have any ideas. thanks

There is a shoe adjuster (star wheel) that you access through a hole in the disc when it is around 10 o'clock, but I don't know if it has enough travel to free the shoes when they're engaged. You use a screwdriver to lever the wheel around one tooth at a time.

Star wheel just like a makes. Through the hub thread hole- no biggy. Long thin screwdriver.
