Do larger wheels effect Cruise Control?
Hey guys,
I just put 18" wheels on my 1993 400E and the stock size is 15". As soon as I put them on I notice my cruise control doesn't work above 40 MPH and if i try to set it I can feel a little jolt and then it just quits. Any link here? Or is it just a coincidence and my cruise is going out? Thanks! |
If they're all the same size (exactly), should be fine. Are they staggered?
|
I had issues when I ran staggered wheels on my 1996 E320. Went back to stock and they went away.
|
They aren't staggered all 4 of them are 9.5" wide. The tread size is different though I have a 25% aspect ration on the front and 45% on the back...I'm switching to 35s though cause the 45s rub.

Im going to use the calculator and see if 35s on the rear will solve the problem

25 aspect! Is this car .5" off the ground? :)
|
Actually I gave false info. The fronts and backs are 40% aspect but the fronts are 225 and the rears are 255

There ya go, different rolling circumference = no cruise control.
|
What would you suggest for an all around tire size? I'm thinking 225/40Z/R18s on all 4 would be the best.
|
I would think that would be a bit rough and depending on where you live would increase the likely hood of a damaged wheel/tire due to a pot hole or the like. I run 17" on the 190 with 215/45 all around. Excellent performance and the tires look decent on the car. I ran 40's for a bit and they were too thin IMO.

These wheels are pretty good quality. I would go with 17s but I already bought the 18s and I am having trouble trying to sell them.
