Engine mount question
Do both engine mounts go bad on the w124, or is it only the one on the passenger side due to heat?
thanks, |
Depends. Any major shocks (accidents) in the cars history can also blow them. Otherwise its just age that does them in. Replacing them as a pair is always good bet.
|
true,
just trying to limit cost since i might be selling soon. but i am sure i need the passenger side one.. how do you test them? thanks,, |
Having someone rock the engine while you watch from below to see which mount is moving most?
|
John's advice is good. Even if one has failed more than the other, replacing that one will only stress the older one more. Replace them as a set if possible. Plus the smoother the car runs the easier it will be to sell. :D
|
Will replace them and update, it seems i need a transmission mount too !!!
|
The engine is supported by two engine mounts, one at each side and a third one at the rear on the transmission.

thanks, links are not working |
Measure clearance to the crossmember, only way to tell.
|
Sorry I may have breached a peachparts protocol here in using a link offsite...
|
Actually, without even measuring, I have vibration in the cabin, and my car keeps on destroying the middle rubber exhaust hanger...the drive train is lower than it should be so i definitely need mounts. i will replace all of them including the transmission mount....
thanks, |
