Photo of sensor on car / anyone know what it does?
 

93 mercedes 300ce w124 m104 auto transmission

Hi, the 2 brown and black wires that go into this transmission sensor were dangling ripped off of its contacts.... what does this sensor do, and since it was ripped off, do they have to go back on the correct contacts or can they be switched with no negative effects?

hello,well my thought is of course it needs to be reconnected,and yes the wires do need to be put in the correct sequence,and my thought is maybe its the tranny speed sensor,but im not certain,goodluck.check to make sure your cruise control is operating correct.

I could try to look it up for you, but I believe it's got the 722.5 tranny w/5 speed OD, and I think it has to do with the OD (5th) gear. Make sense?

It's a 4-speed 722.3xx, no overdrive nor lock-up. The only wires to the trans are IIRC: neutral-start switch/reverse-light switch (the one just rearward of it), kickdown solenoid, and cold-shift delay.

thanks, that is perfect. I am hoping that this will also correct my 2-3 upshift flare... I had the sensor apart and saw that one side was marked + so I will attach the black to this side and the brown to the other, then post results

soldered back in place and re assembled... seems to have done little to no impact on the flare. will replace the k1 spring and post results. thanks for the identification help

replaced k1 spring per instructions from http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w201-190-class/1361737-diy-mercedes-722-3-722-4-a.html and replaced the transmission filter, still have a mild to severe flare based on how much im on it during the shift.

any ideas? can the Transmission overload protection switch cause this flare? the wires were dangling to this transmission sensor and i re soldered them but am not certain i put them back on correctly... thanks all

Any luck in repairing your flare? My tranny is also flaring which is how I came across this posting.

K1 $10
 

I just posted my glowing affirmation about the K1 fix in the thread about 91 300e sudden trans flaring. If you haven't done the K1 fix yet, for the $10 investment in the part, it's worth the gamble. At minimum you eliminate that variable. As it was for me, at best, it not only fixes the problem it actually improves the shifting to what I imagine the tranny was like when it was new.

My 2 cents about your $10.
