Reminded of tranny problem...
Talking about my Dad's 190E 2.6 on another thread reminded me to do a search for "slow reverse engagement."
I found some inconsistent information regarding causes. Dad's 190E is a little sluggish engaging reverse, and I slid under it to have a look. No leaks. Fluid looks good. Any thoughts? Reverse clutch pack? Possible valve body problem? Car has 300K on 'er now, maybe she's just getting a little long in the tooth... |
I cant remember exactly, but if it takes a while for it to engage in reverse, its a sign that the tranny is going out OR going bad reverse clutch
if you have no forward gears but have reverse then its B2 piston. 300K is a long time my tranny only lasted 260K. The home mechanic, well at least MOST home mechanics, all they can do is change the filter and the fluid and cross fingers. |
FWIW dept.
I recently purchased a beautifful 300cd with no reverse. Actually, you could feel a little reverse when warmed up. After conferring with this great forum, I found that the reverse band adjustment bolt was LOOSE! and had backed out. Snugged it up, and SHAZZAM! Perfect! |
