Help!!! C220 Ignition Key Won't Turn

All of a sudden, my key won't turn the ignition. The steering wheel is in the lock position. I sprayed it with graphite and then lub oil per MB Tech's suggestion (after calling roadside assistance).

Everything was fine. I just stopped to pcik up something (luckily close by) and went back to the car and I could not turn the key:mad:

Have you tried turning the steering wheel to release pressure on the locking mechanism?

You can try to give the cylinder a gentle tap.

My friends BMW does this sometimes! I will guess it is either the key is worn, the cylinder is worn , or it has nothing to do with those and has to do with the safety interlock system, which involves the brake pedal and shifter I think. Do a search, hopefully you can find something on this problem. Good luck.

with sheer luck, my neighbor tried his hand on it and what do you know... he got it to turn:D SO from here I'm not turning it all the way off. I brought it to dealer today and they check it and ordered the part..

Wow, lucky break there. I had the same thing happen with my 300E....it started to stick a little, so I replaced the tumbler. Turns out the old one was broken in half!

That C220 is like the energizer bunny, 305k?! Has it needed any major repairs yet? Maybe I need to get myself one of those.....

pawsd, its actually 307.6k now. No repairs. Just normal stuff. If you maintain it it will last.

Ignition key tumbler fixed by dealer for under $200.

I need to get one of those. :D My 300SD will surely drive well into the 300k range, but it has needed lots of care (and parts) to get there.....

What all has been replaced on that car aside from the alternator and ignition tumbler???

Thats it. Its a California car so no rust and I do not drive it in the winter. I've checked out some from the area but was leery with their condition and maintenance. Plus, many want too much for it.

Btw, u didn't answer my question on the starter solenoid.
