Mercedes slk 230 top
Hello All
The strut that controls the top leaked. Unfortunatly it leaked on the motor and shorted it out. The shop wants to charge 2k to fix it. is this a hard job to do? I'm pretty good with a wrench. Also any suggestion on a good place to buy parts? Thanks in advance. Glen |

Been there with my E320. If you can get to the strut, send it out for rebuilding. It's cheaper (and better) than the dealer part. Search "Dennis Ficken" for more detail.
I'm not sure about the motor. Unless you can get a good price on it, you may want to consider sending it to a generic motor rebuild shop. They can rebuild electric motors rather inexpensively.

Probably a lot of labor, convertible tops tend to be a pain in my experience. Very doable, but definitely pains.
