ETS vs. ASR

What is the difference between ETS and ASR? Is ETS a locking differential type system whereas ASR is purely electronic?

I'm familiar with the ASR in my '94, electronic brake application and throttle reduction. ASD in the '90s 124 and 126 diesels was electronic-hydraulic locking of the differential. ETS is a later system the in which the details I'm not familiar.

ETS is brakes only, creating a "locked differential effect". By comparison to ASR it is extremely untroubled.

That's what I sort of thought. I wonder which one is more effective? I know that early ASR cars were always causing headaches. When did Mercedes finally perfect the system?

When they went to ESP...the system was 99.99%
