1995 S500 tandem power steering pump

I removed the P/S pump on my coupe last night to look into resealing or replacing, as the front seal has been leaking. My question is about the auto leveling presure hose connection, the banjo bolt connection. It had only one copper washer on it; there was no washer between the hose fitting and the pump. The EPC picture shows this same set-up, but other banjo bolt connections I've seen use a washer on both sides of the fitting. The connection didn't appear to be leaking, but should there be two washers?

I'm not familiar with that car, but I'd think so, as that's usually a required part to get a seal with banjo bolts!

Yeah it uses a seal between the head of the bolt and the fitting, but after looking at the pump last night it looks like the sealing surface around the threaded hole might be made out of copper or some soft material, so maybe that side doesn't use a washer. I'm going to put it back together that way and see what happens. Thanks for the reply :).

It's quite possible the washer is there and just securely stuck to the pump. If that is the case a gentle tap would free it allowing replacement.

Waiting on a seal kit. The pump has a recessed area, as if made for a seal, but the way the fitting is designed, it fits down into the recess. I'm leary of damaging the sealing surface but I'm sure there's no seal stuck there. I was very careful taking it apart as I always expect seals. There simply wasn't one there. Amazing that it wasn't leaking there. After thinking about it, I'm going to put both seals in as the washer I have fits perfectly into the recess. Thanks for the input.
