W126 560SEL, No heat.....

Hi,
My car doesn't blow any heat but cold air (warm air under the steering wheel) the heat worked great the day before. I did my research here and some said that i should replace the mono valve. I am wondering if anything i can do to test and make sure that the monovalve is going bad or not.
And i am wondering what is the MPG on this car?
someone from ebay ad said he can have a 23MPG.... and mine is only 14-18... a huge different!
thanks and look forward to hearing from you guys!
