I can't say for certain but I'll bet it is the same as an 87 201, I just went out with my tool and pulled the one from one of my 87 190D T cars. The mechanism is exactly the same as a 124 car also, there are two spring loaded levers the ride in a groove machine into the inside diameter of the black security cover. Once the tool tip gets behind the levers it causes the levers to retract inward freeing the black security cover which comes straight outwards, the security cover will not come completely out because it hits the key and/or the tool it will be just released, moved forward and loose there, then the key can be pulled on and jiggled a little and the lock's cylinder pulls straight outwards also thereby allowing the security collar to come completely off/out with it also. You remove the tool/tools then turn the key fully counter clockwise to the off position and remove it from the cylinder and you can slide the cylinder back out of the security collar separating them

On my 87 there is a thin chromed trim ring surrounding the dash opening that is pulled out/off before you start on the lock, which gives you a little more access to the black security cover enabling you to grasp it and assist it moving forward once it's released.

Often times the trouble is that people just don't get the tool far enough down into the mechanism to get things released or if the tool is of too small diameter it will not push the levers or the cylinder's springs enough distance to effect release.

Billybob-thanks for the info. on the tumbler! I really didn't expect or think you would go to all the trouble of pulling one out of your cars there that way. This forum is a great source.

On my 87 300E I also had to order a new bezel (the black German helmet thing) part 124-462-28-23 also. The new tumblers are a bit different in design.
