HELP DIAGNOSE A/C 2005 C CLASS

My a/c died this past weekend. I've read several threads as to how you can get codes in the older models using the a/c controls. In the 2005 C class it appears that that cannot be done. I don't want to throw parts at the car and I don't want to go to the dealer, I would like to troubleshoot this myself. The compressor wasn't making any weird noises before everything shut down. Can I get codes from the can bus using an OBDII/Can reader. I know that there is a possibility that it can be the pressure/temp sensor, the evaporator temp sensor, or it could just be low on freon. Does anyone know how to get the codes from a 2005 C Class in order to get codes to troubleshoot A/C and also can the OBDII/CAN readers be use to troubleshoot the A/C. Any help is appreciated, I'm really cooking down here in florida and the wife wants her car back.

The 2001 & later W203 C-class requires a scanner(not ODB2) to diagnosis the climate control system.

Why not just throw a set of gauges on it and check the pressures? Start with the simple stuff!!!:)

UPDATE:
After not being able to really do anything since I have no way of getting any codes. I took it to an independent A/C repair place. They immidiately said that it was the A/C compressor, they pull any codes just hooked up gauges to the a/c system. $743 dollars later and 3 tries my a/c is working. I figured if I took it to the dealer between diagnostics and what ever parts they replaced it was probably going to cost me between $400 and $500 bucks anyway if it wasn't the compressor, if it truly was they probably would have charged me over $1000 so I'm happy with the outcome. I sure wish I could find an aftermarket equivalent of the star diagnosis system that the dealer uses. I would like to keep this car for a while and would like to troubleshoot problems without guessing and around here the typical hookup at the dealer is a slam dunk $100 bucks and there is no guaranty that they will tell you whats actually wrong unless you fix it with them and even that is not guarantee to fix the problem without them coming out and saying that it was a combination of things. Anyone know of an aftermarket system for 2005 and newer models that can read the codes. Thanks for the help.
