Still getting Code P1444 after replacing valve

I have a 1996 Merc C220. I got the code P1444 for the purge switch over valve. I replaced the valve with a genuine part and I am still getting the same code. Can the valve be bad even though is a new part? What can I do next? Any ideas? Diagrams will help a lot if you have them since I am still learning. Thank you.

You did replace the switch-over valve under the w/s washer reservoir?

Not the purge valve beside the reservoir.

What was the part number? Is there power to the valve? 12V with key on.

Thank you for your response. My mechanic wrote it up as a purge switch over valve. The old valve at the time was clicking. He told me that I could change it myself. I repaced it with P/N A 000 470 22 93. The valve is in the front of the w/s washer reservoir. Mercedes also calls it regeneration valve. As far as the power to the valve, I don't know if I have 12V and I don't hve an instrument to test it.

You replaced the WRONG part!

The switch-over valve is UNDER the w/s washer reservoir.

So, if the purge valve that I replaced was clicking, was it bad? Would I be getting the same error code for the switch over valve? Would this replacement fix my problem? To get to the purge valve I need to lift the w/s washer reservoir, correct? Do you have a part number or a picture or both? Thank you.

The purge valve should start clicking as soon as the engine goes into closed loop.

Closed loop is when the front oxygen sensor is in control of the fuel mixture.

Code P1 444 is not for the purge valve!

Code P1 444 is for the purge switch-over valve located UNDER the w/s reservoir.

The part number for the part you NEED to replace is 001-540-86-97.

Is purge switch-over valve also called vacuum change over valve? p/n W0133-1617610 on peachparts.com When I put your p/n it came up with this p/n and title. Thank you for all of your advise
