Bowden Cables on 126 Center Vents

Bowden Cables on 126 Center Vents

These bowden cables that lead to the center & side vents on the dash - is their sole function to control the opening & closing of these vents ? the CD talks about adjusting these cables - do you tighten them CW or CCW. I definitely don't want to have them snap..snap
