M103 300E engine swap compatability.

So the 300E has had a slight moment, and decided to shoot a piston out the side of the engine block. Lovely.

Down to business, am I best to stick with an M103, or should I upgrade the engine, or go for more economy while I'm at it? a 2.6 perhaps?

Although it would be easier to stick with the 3.0 M103, if anyone has swapped engines successfully I'd be interested in other options.
(And if anyone in Victoria by any chance has one for under 1K, which is the current price I have on one)
I only need the main block. My trans. injection etc is fine.

Cheers guys...

Got a M103 3.0 litre in Campbellfield with 80,000Ks on it for around those dollars. Comes with head and accouterments. There's a workshop there where you can fit the engine.
P.M. me if you need a contact number.
It's got it's 80,000 K transmission attached to it - if you interested in that as well.
Engine came from a 300e.

Go with a 103. The 2.6 would offer no significant fuel economy gain and going to a 104 would be a nightmare given all the electronics changes that would be necessary.

Why would you opt for a less powerful engine? The M103 is as tuff as they come.....never do this man!

As LarryBible said, don't get the 2.6L.

You will find a lack of power with A/C and a few people in the car. Compared to my 3L it is noticeable on load....Stick with the 3L for sure. It doesn't even get any better fuel economy due to the increase of foot needed.

I was simply pondering on the 2.6 due to the possible increase in fuel economy.

Have decided to stick with the 103 3.0Litre.

What rough costs are you looking at to fit an engine... I suspect I may be getting ripped off.
