Mystery (?) for the Techs..

Ijust got new fuel injectors and seals(andO rings) from Fastlane. Since my model, the 300SE 1987 Euro is not listed in their OnLine Catalog I supplied Phil with the Vin # , rather than order by specific part number - as I have successfully done several times before.
When the new parts arrived I went under the hood and discovered the part numbers don't match. Thet often don't as we all know - however here the threads of the injectors don't match either. The injectors coming off the car have the following Bosch number #0437 502 010, the new ones #0437 502 054. So I asked around and was told by my local shop that there is a newer number #0437 502 047 that might be what I am looking for . They suggested that my "New" Injectors are for a V8.
So I wrote Phil and asked him to swap the Injectors, no big deal I thought.
Here is the MYSTERY part.- HIS REPLY, which I am posting at his suggestion.
Also in the photo the seal for the Injector is clearly seen . It is very different looking from the new seals I got #116 070 00 77.
As these wrong aas well or are they just a new version ?

Hello Gideon,
We've researched this and the parts been superseeded to the ones you
have. I'm not sure about the threads on top. Try going on to the ShopForum
and asking one of the techs what they do for this problem

Thank you,
Phil

I have no idea re: the injectors, but just a friendly suggestion that you'll likely get a LOT more help if you 1) don't limit your request to just the professional techinicians; and 2) do give a meaningful subject line. Many of us skip over nondescript subjects if we're busy.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi 400E,

Happy Holidays.

First of all, 6 and 8 cylinder injectors look identical, but the thread is different. The 8 cylinder has a finer thread. I just installed new injectors in my 88 300CE 103 engine. The part number is 0 437 502 047, the last one that you mentioned. I am pretty sure that those are the ones you need.

The seals are the same for 6 and 8 cylinders. I'll try to find the part number and post it later.

The Mercedes part number for V8 injectors is 000-078-58-23, which is the same as Bosch number 0437 502 054. You my friend have V8 injectors. The only thing that I am puzzled about is why couldn't Phil figure it out (computer problem?). You can actually plug in both numbers (Mercedes and Bosch) on the Fast Lane catalog and see that they are identical.

Seals are the same as I mentioned earlier (116-070-00-77). BTW, the Mercedes part number for 6 cylinders is 000-078-56-23 (Fast Lane # C1000-13519).

thanks vinmag,
Would you know about the difference in the injector threads between the two engines ?
I mean could the Euro have a specific thread ( as seen in the image) or are all 103 engines identical , therefore using the same Fuel Injectors ?

Ooooops..

I missed your second post which answers my above questions. So, for the heck of it I came up with another one.
What is the use for O rings on the 103, where do they go on these fuel injectors ?

vinamg 12-23-2001 02:52 AM

I've never seen any o-rings on any of the injectors. All you do is slide the seal (I use WD40) over the stem until it sits securely in the injector groove. BTW you need to push the seal, don't pull it by the plastic piece because it willl come off. If it comes off you need to remove the seal from stem, put back the plastic cover and try again.

will get those replaced and into the car in the next few days. thanks again for the input.

The plot thickens, the Bosch 047 injectors in the 103 motor are the same as those used in the 3.5,4.5,3.8,and5.0 liter motors. The 054 injectors are used in 4.2 and 5.6l motors. The early six used a different seal. The v8s have a plastic insulator mixing body that the injector and seal fit into. It is sealed to the head with a green o-ring the size of your thumb.

Hi Steve,

"The early six used a different seal..."
Is 1987 EARLY ? or do I use the # 116-070-00-77 for my 300SE.
as Vinmag suggests.
(his car is a 1988 300CE )

stevebfl 12-26-2001 12:58 PM

Would need an engine number to be sure. I am not familiar with how they are different as I can't remember ever using them on a car, which leads me to think they might have only appeared on early 103 motors mostly Euros and maybe some 1986 models.

The plot thickens again

After some running around I can now answer my own question. I found out the seals (116-070-00-77) don't work. They are too "short" and don't seal the gap between the block and the seal holder.
Again I went down to my local friendly shop. Looking at a couple of 300SE's parked there while the owner was digging for the correct seals, I realized these cars sport different type seals and holders almost every year.....

So the correct ones for my car are the ones that are pictured in my original post. Those that came off the car.
Thank you all for helping - I now have replaced the worn out very carbonized injectors in my car and am "happy" to report - this is never ending..The first thing I noticed is that the Idle now fluctuates when in park.Guess I should begin a new thread on that.
