Just got back from the "PPI"...

Hey guys,

So I decided to get a full inspection done on my 560SEL today, and was expecting some bad news...

It came back in really good shape; I had it done at the dealership so it would be the worst news possible too.

My question is which of these things is best done first/ can I do?

-My rotors and pads are shot. I've done pads before, but not the rotors...

-The front brake thrust arm bushings are almost gone; he expressed the most concern over these.

-And my rear springs are starting to go too.

They basically want $1000 for each job, and I just had the rotors and pads changed on the E430 at my indy for 900-ish.

So, what should I do?

Thanks in advance,

Carlen

Brake job is easy, you might be able to do the bushings while everything is apart too, but not sure on that as I haven't got the experience. What is wrong with the rear springs? Starting to rust? Suspension on the 560SELs is somewhat a nightmare expense-wise because of SLS system.

Yes, the springs are starting to rust and sometime soon should crack apparently.

So far the SLS hasn't given me any troubles; works fine and based on my service records from the PO it's never been worked on in its 23 year, 217,000 mile service. Maybe I'm lucky or maybe I just jynxed myself

It seems to me that 5 hours in labor to remove and replace the springs is a little much (considering its $118 an hour at the dealer).

The bushings look a little intimidating; The brakes seem real straight forward, especially with the DIY wikki... http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W126RearBrakes

But is the front the same as the back? It sure looks it to me, but I'd rather be certain before I dive in head first.

IIRC the fronts involve the wheel bearing, either repacking or replacing it. Again, not too hard but it is a little more difficult than the rears (although you have the parking brake in back). I was able to get all four rotors, calipers, pads, and wheel bearings done in my SD in one day.
