fuel return lines question

I have a big leak in my injector vicintiy, i suspect the fuel return lines as they a soaked in fuel and after i run the engine i can see steam rising from where the diesel runs down the hot engine. any way i have a couple of questions about the fuel return lines.
1) can i use bulk fuel hose to do the job (gas engine fuel hose)
2) is it a high pressure hose(i gont think so because they are pressed on)
3) What is the inside diameter of the hose? SAE/ISO
thanks

This was discussed in two or three threads in the last week or so. Do a search.

The bottom line is this: If you get the correct hose (from dealer or an OEM parts vendor), then you do not have to worry about the three questions you have.

After market hose do not work on this.

Oh my! If the leak is bad enough to create "diesel steam" I don't think I'd drive it until the return lines are fixed.

I highly recommend you get the "official" hose, either from Performance Products, here on FastLane, or your Mercedes dealer. It is cheap compared to starting a fire from a leak.

It is some kind of metric hose, it just pushes onto the injector fittings and is not a high pressure issue - it just returns fuel. The proper hose is fiber reinforced on the outside.

Please. Save yourself a lot of trouble. The proper hose might cost you $8 or $9 at most.

The cost of the hose is not so much the problem as its unavailibility. on fastlane there are different sizes of hose and in large quantities. and the part is not available even in my 'rare' parts store. if i can get a number on the inside diameter it would be a great help
thanks

You can mail order it. I just received them before I went to the dealer to get them as well. So I have an extra set as spare in the trunk.

Here are the part numbers:

Part #: 403-070-00-55
Product: INJECTOR END PLUG

You can re-use the plug. Just insert the old one into a new hose.

Part #: 615-476-03-26
Product: DIESEL FUEL HOSE

Do not hold me onto this one, I think the inside diameter is 4 mm.

Yes, I agree with you TT that FastLane is difficult to understand on this part.

Select your Year and Model and then go to "Fuel Delivery".

You'll see 4mm braided hose, 160mm looping return line, and 200mm looping return line. I didn't know what size hose it was, or I might have chosen the 4mm braided hose - assuming the price is per meter.

Instead, I had to choose between the 160mm and 200mm looping return lines. Knowing that there are 5-cyl and 6-cyl diesels out there, I chose the 200mm return line thinking that on a 5-cyl there would be more space between the larger cylinders.

That was the correct choice for my '82 300D. So, I got five or six of these pre-cut 200mm looping return lines. This replaced all the between-injector return lines, and I cut one short to use as the "stub" on the last cylinder that has the plug.

I couldn't replace the length of return hose between the fuel filter and the first injector, but it wasn't leaking. I have some uncut braided hose on the way to take care of that.

Hope this helps.

Just get 1 meter and cut yourself. If the price is between $5 and $11, it is probably for a meter.
