please final help about the Speedometer remover
 

Hi, after posting 3 post, I have got no response about this. Please help me.....I am trying to remove the cluster to lube the
speedocable because it is making a load noise and is also causing the speedometer to be slightly jumping. I have already pull the cluster out. But what is next? I have read lots of post but I don't really understand it. I have pull out so far that I can only see this big plug on the right side with all the wire going into
it......this question is how to unplug this connector? Do I twist it off or do I just unplug it by pulling on it? By the way, I have pull
the cluster out (as far as I can without yanking on it) I still
can't reach my hand behind it. Do I need to unplug that big connector or I can pull the cluster out even more? Again Please
help.

The large electrical connector is pulled straight off. It'll be tight, but it'll come off.
Very often on the 190's, the speedo cable has to be disconnected from the transmission to gain enough slack to be able to put your hand behind the cluster to unscrew the collar for the speedo cable. If you can get your hand behind there to unscrew the cable, then fine. But remember you also have to reinstall the cable later, will there be enough slack to allow this? It can be tougher to get it reinstalled than to remove it is what I'm saying.

I am not sure about your 190 but in my 300e, if I remove the LF speaker that would give me access to the cluster.
One more thing, the speedo cable goes down and it is clipped to the firewall next to the steering column. If you unclipped it (if you have not already done so) that may give you the extra room that you need.
If that does not work, just disconnect the cable from the transmission first.

Hi,
When I pulled the cluster out of my 16V, I went through the bottom. I removed the driver side knee bolster assembly and the round AC ductwork which connects to the driver side AC vent. I then reached through the bottom to the back of the cluster and removed the speedometer connector. It is a twist type connector. Once the speedometer cable is disconnected simply pull the cluster out through the front and disconnect the remaining connectors. Good Luck.
