96 E320W Key doesn't work locks.

My door locks all work when I open or close them using the switch on the panel. However my key in the door doesn't have any effect. It turns freely but doesn't do anything. Help!

Does the remote function unlock/lock the doors?

Oh yeah that was my next question - where can I get a reasonably priced replacement remote. The dealer I called wants $200.

Reaonably priced remotes you can get on eBay, however if you want the remote to actually work, you have to get them at the dealer

My '96 was that way when I got it. The cylinder turned, but behind it there was nothing.

There was a small pin that sheared, connecting the cylinder plug to the shaft that turned the lock. I replaced it with a small split pin from the hardware store.

Remove the lock assembly from the door -- one allen-head bolt, hidden behind the weatherstripping. I don't remember if it's possible to drop the shaft into the door when you remove the lock assembly, so proceed accordingly.

I got a key at a local dealer for $240 a few years ago. $200 sounds pretty good.
