95 E420 HITS REV LIMITER
Hello, I have a 1995 e420(124/119). When flooring the accelerator(kick down switch depressed) from a standing start, it hits the rev limiter before shifting to 2nd gear. As soon as the rev limiter is "bumped" it shifts to 2nd. All other upshifts occur @ approx 6000 RPM.When accelerating without the kick down switch depressed, the 1-2 upshift occurs @ approx 5600 RPM.Any body have any ideas. Tried adjusting the mechanical linkage between throttle and trans cable, no help. Thanks for the help, Dan

The "limiter" on the gas cars is controlled by the engine computer, not a physical adjustment. The computer cuts out the fuel pump when a certain rpm is reached.

1-2 shift
How do I adjust the 1-2 shift point before hitting rev limiter with kick down switch depressed?
|
The shift point is usually controlled by the bowden cable, not sure if the kickdown will have an effect on the shift point though.

There is a governor pressure adjustment on the front of the valve body.
Requires removal of the trans pan (possibly more than once) and a very short allen wrench. |
adjustment
I made an adjustment to the mechanical linkage between throttle and bowden cable effectivly loosening the bowden cable and this had no effect other than causing sluggish kick down and early 2-3 up shifts. The 1-2 upshift still hit the rev limiter when kick down switch was depressed. Can you explain where and how the governer adjustment is made? Other than the 1-2 upshift issue all other parameters are good. Thanks for the advice, Dan
