W126 What the heck is this?
I was working on my radio and took off the inner driver kick panel for easier access and visibly of wire interference with the ash tray. I then noticed that near the floor at the trans body housing there was what I can only describe as a miniature insulated duct tube. But one side of it was completely worn open. Inside its yellow with a white spiral metal frame. Outside it was a black thin plastic cover. It went up towards the dash.
I have a pic, but before I go through the pain of uploading I thought I would ask. |
pic would be better...but it sounds like your A/C condenser. Does your A/c work?
|
That is one of the A/C condenser drain tubes. If your A/C works, you're going to have water all over the place until you replace that.

I think it is the evap drain.

A drain would make sense given the location. But the material its made out of is very sponge like. Not rubber at all. And I have never had any water inside, or at least noticed. AC works fine, seen it dripping recently. Two spots under the car at trans location. Things were dry tonight when I took it all apart and the damage to it looked like it happened a while ago judging by the dirt.
I put some foil tape around it. But if it carries water, I have more to do then. |
I replaced mine with some PVC tubing.

Looks like the evaporator drain line. The A/C condenser is located in front of the radiator.

Those drain hoses are always bad on the older cars. They dry up and then crack and crumble apart with age. I think replacing those drain hoses should be in order or you may find water entering the car.
