W126 power rear recline woes
Good people of the forum:
The rear recline function in my 300SDL is acting up. The motor works fine and the right side of the seat reclines properly. When I hit the switch to recline I can feel the black cable vibrating on the left side not functioning. Does this mean the cable has stretched internally and not catching to spin to drive the gear? Is the cable able to be modified to make the gear spin or will the cable simply need replacement? |
Edit: read as rear seat (as in back bench)
|
How different is the recline seat from the normal one? Is the seat base itself different?
|
Yes, back seat. :)
No the entire rear structure is different. Upper/lower frame to body (think tracks) are different as are the seat frames where you put your ass and back. I can get you some pictures next time I am in there if you are curious. |
I was on the EPC, apparently I can replace just the cable which is a plus!
Search up 126.039, 92 for Rear Bench, 015 for rear cushion/back rest, Page 2. Now if I could find some wire tracing/mounting pictures in this EPC for the rear seat heating I would be in business. |
Ok, before my edit I just mentioned that since the bench is so easy to take apart you may want to look for something bound in the gear. I had peanuts in mine. After a cleaning and grease it is operating perfectly and much faster.
Its a very simple setup once you have it apart. As for heating, its pretty easy too. On mine one set was disconnected somehow. Two connectors for each side. IMPORTANT - when you move the bench out, slide it forward just enough to disconnect the seat heat elements. And you may want to recline the bench all the way before starting work, makes it easier. |
