HFO-1234yf refrigerant

Has anyone heard if HFO-1234yf will be making its way to North America? I hear that it is already mandated for use in European cars for the 2011 model year. Will it offer any efficiency benefits over R12 or R134A? This is something I'm interested in, especially for the conversions in older models.
