Help needed on124 tie rod replacement

What type and size bit is used to remove the bolt from the inner and outer tie rod assembly on a 92 300D 2.5? I have tried 5.0mm 5.5mm and 6.0mm Allens to no avail. help is appreciated.

If you are talking the hex that a;;ows you to hold the taper shafts, it should be 5 mm.
But the nuts should come off without having to hold the shaft.
May need to hold them on the replacement 'til the taper grabs.

I have actually found the driver's side to be 5.0mm and the passenger's side seems to be a torx between T30 and T40. Could this be so? If it is, I cannot find the tool anywhere, not even at Grainger or Snap-on. Say I can find what fits, do I just screw these out to release the tie rod? the nuts came off with no problem.

They are there to hold the shaft from turning when installing the new ones.
Coming off requires a puller/fork tool.

The right side may need cleaning to get the 5mm key inserted.
I never use the hex. If you tap the new ones in, they hold enough to tighten the nuts.

Tool not required

Get a 5 lb hammer and give the spindel a manly shot (or two) outside where the tierod connects
