1993 MB 500 SEL
A local auction has this for sale. About 200K miles on this but was curious if there were any known issues with this series (I seem to remember the 300SD of a similiar year had issues with the air conditioner)

Many issues with the early W140s, unless it comes with records... avoid it. You are simply asking for trouble.

AC, Bose amp, speedo issues, at 200K, probably trans, oil tubes on engine, rear suspension (struts). The more things that have been done the better off you are.

RE: 1993 500SEL
While not the same series, I had a 1993 300E. They may have shared the same systems and manufacturing processes. My model year had issues with the engine wiring harness being made from biodegradable materials that prematurely deteriorated. Also, the AC evaporators were faulty (including mine) which necessitate dash removal to repair. Also, I recall there being a class action suit around that time due to suspension/premature tire wear issues on some of these models. While likewise a different model, a friend of mine who purchased an SL around that time was included in that suit.
