1995 e320 serpentine belt replacement

Could anyone please tell me where to loosen the ?????to get the new belt on?


Just replaced the air pump after much knuckle scraping but on this 95 I cannot figure where to loose and tighten in order to get belt to fit....the last belt disintegrated when the air pump froze up so that was easy...help!


I am trying to help a friend.... my other car is a 91 and that tensioner is easy to figure out...SOS!

Not sure what year they changed from a fixed tensioner to an automatic one. I think that one has an automatic tensioner.

Any way, look below the water pump pulley, and you will see a flat pulley. From memory you need to put a socket on the end of this and turn it anti clock wise and it will release tension.

I suggest confirming this though, as it has been a while since my E320 left the garage.

Sometimes the easiest fixes stare you right back for a week or two before you get to see it...I even bought a Bentley book from Phil....make that Lee at Fastlane (which did not offer one iota of help with this matter).
