1995 mercedes e320 wagon self leveling Accumulators
My new wagon has a pretty firm bounce in the rear supension. Im guessing its the self leveling Accumulators? The prior owner has had them replaced not too long ago. Is there any adjustment to this? How would I go about adjusting it? If I do need the accumulators where is a good place to order them from?

are you sure they are shot? if they were just replaced not too long ago, I'd be hesitant to say they were. I mean they can GO bad...

Im not positive about there current condition. I just know that the bounce is so firm that you feel everything. I was wondering if there was an ajustment to the sls system but my search skills havent found it yet.

If the rear suspension is doing the "bunny hop", you're diaphragms in the spheres have leaked.
No adjustment, just replacement. It's a fun job....not. Jim

Is this brand any good? Corteco/Febi I have no idea if any brands are better than others with these accumulators.
Thanks! |

If you're the one doing the replacement, don't get discouraged at access to the fittings (its a bear). PB blaster or Kanokroil before you start, maybe drop an axle or move exhaust. When reinstaling, leave the mounts loose so that you can line up and start the hydraulic fitting threads. A positive attitude helps pass the time while you fiddle with them

Sounds like a good diy thread opportunity. I've got a bit of a hop, nothing I can't live with. Eventually they all will need replacing I guess.

X2.
My '87 came apart easily, but getting the small hydraulic lines to start threads, ... took over an hour and a couple of sanity breaks. I should probably have loosened the leveling valve to make it easier (that short one was the big problem). Also be sure to order the four crush-washers for the banjo fittings on the bottom of the accumulators.

Hmm... I wasnt really enthused about trying it myself but I might look into it a little more. Most things I would tackle but... im just not sure.

It's not complicated, just tedious.

I got a shower of hydraulic fluid when I changed mine. The bleeder was stuck in the height valve. I found removing the passanger side half shaft from the final drive made for easier access.

I remembered that my mechanic owed me a favor so he said he would change them for me. I wasnt looking forward to a hydrolic fluid shower!

Flush the entire system with new fluid while you're at it. Replace all the fluid with fresh MB fluid. Replace (or just clean) the filter in the reservoir.
