E320 Seat Making Noise

I'm sure you all have heard about this. My 2000 E320 seat frame on the driver side makes noise when you come to a stop and accelerate
forward. I hear that you can't fix it by tightening anything.

Is there any DIY fix for this? It's really annoying. Also, any pictures of what you would fix?

I hear there are some special replacement bolts but I can't seem to locate them or any pictures of the process.

Thanks much!

They all do that. No repair that I'm aware of.

benzs500, the driver's seat in our 1998 E320 did the same thing when new. I complained to the dealer and the Service Department fixed it. Suggest you discuss the situation with the Service Manager at your local MB dealer. As I recall a service tech replaced the seat track mechanism.

It's possible MBUSA had a recall for that very item.

Thanks you'd think they would recall that. I'm going to see if there is any recall info on this. Very annoying and I can't imagine it being safe if the seat is moving around.

the did not recall it but the did issue a technical service bulletin covering multiple
years of the 210. check also MBWORLD as well as BENZWORLD's 210 section.
I've seen several successful fixes depending on origin of noise.

You're referring to a WIS document, not a Service Bulletin. This document doesn't refer to a specific cause/correction. It's just a general guide to diagnosing the problem.

Since the 210 seat is very easy to remove, the first thing I would do would be to remove it and place it on a suitable work surface. Then I would tighten every single fastener that can be seen. If the noise goes away you're done. If not I would suspect that the seat adjuster (lower seat frame) will need to be replaced. I've replaced lots of them over the years. This was a fairly common problem on the 220 chassis MB's. I've even seen a few 221's with this issue, especially when the regular occupant of the problem seat is XXL.

I've never seen a seat fail in such a way as to pose a safety threat, but it can be quite annoying.
