300CE 24 valve not reving past 4000 rpm

I have a 300CE 24 valve (M104 KE jetronic) that won't rev past 4000 rpm while driving. It can be coached past 4000 by throttling back but if you go past 50% throttle it stops reving. Anyone reckognize this problem????
