Seat sensor problems after seat swap W210
 

I Just got a 2003 W210 wagon with bad seat heaters
I had a 98 E320 wagon with only half the elements open so I swapped seats before I traded (with the sellers ok)
Now I get the SRS light and when we try to reset it the indication is the sensor in the passenger seat is bad
Worked fine in the 98
Could there be a difference ? or what else would give this indication?
Also anything on hoow these actually work would be helpful

So IIRC the problem is with the Babysmart crap. Did you plug the recognition sensor in under the passengers seat?

Yes I did I believe its the yellow connector
Checked it when we tried to reset the lamp and it had no effect.
which has me wondering if there are differences between 98 and 03 versions
Is there some way of checking out the sensor with a meter?

I think you can just check for continuity, there should be some resistance, if it is open circuit it is bad. I am not sure if an 03 is the same as an earlier.
What has me really confused is I thought an 03 is a 211 chassis not a 210.

You might possibly be able to just jump the 2 sockets for the Baby sensor with a wire to get a closed circuit.
Other possiblity is if the ignition was switched on before the baby sensor was plugged in it may have just set a code which won't self-erase, sort of like the airbag being disconnected.

When I punch my VIN in EPCnet I get its a 210.282 thats what I'm going by

If you look at the emission label on the car, what year does it say it is? Will say something like "meets emission standards for "such and such" a year", I think small print on the bottom of the label.

Date of manufacture was 6/02
I checked for continuity definitely not open
continuity between all three terminals
I'm curious on how it works and if somebody has a bad one I'll reverse engineer it and hopefully find a way to bypass it

I'm an engineer by trade and I'm amazed how MB designes a defective product then tells the customer to just buy the next years model.
A Great example of this is the blower regulator on the 98 210 which when it failed they said buy a 2000 one and a $600 Blower
When I dug into that issue I found that they used a linear amp for teh blower and it tended to overheat so each year they put a bigger heat sink on it
I was inclined to design a PWM alternative that would run cool but got a replacement at a junk yard and never got to it

2003 sedans are 211, but the 03 wagon was still a 210.
