is there any sparkplug wires that can be used instead of oem?
is there any other car that has similar sparkplug wires that are cheaper for the m103? paying 100 bucks everytime i change my wires is a bit steep. just wondering if anyone knows of any that will work. thanx guys:D

If you are concerned over $100 every 100k miles the 103 might not be the best choice....
If you are strapped for cash right now, measure resistance on each wire using a multimeter and check it to what the wire says. If resistance is fine, they are probably okay. Just |
well the thing is the set that i bought recently i broke pulling them out and was looking for a alternative because im cheap lol

m103 and cheap should not be used in the same sentence;). As for price, bosch sets can be found for well under $100. Also, mercedes has a special pair of pliers designed especially for pulling plug wires so you don't break them. Inexpensive and worth it.

I was able to buy a Bosch ignition wire roll for use in my 109 The correct Bosch spark plug adapters are also available as required . Not cheap. Low price alternate is the VW shops with quite similar Bosch parts like coils CB points, cap rotors And brakes parts for fintails.

Identical spark plug pliers available at any big box auto parts store (Pep Boys, AutoZone, et al). They are NOT an MB special tool. About $5. or less.

ya my michanic actually gave me a set of them pliers after i broke mine was just trying to avoid paying 100 bucks again lol

Have you looked at the fastlane store under the "Buy parts" link above? You can buy a meter of spark plug wire and an end, just replace the wire that you broke off for only a few bucks. IMO the M103 isn't that expensive an engine to work on, nor is it that complicated (aside from CIS-E system)

I cant remember the website but a vendor online had some high quality spark plug wires for Mercedes, non oem brand but they were of high quality. Cannot recall them.

Before installing any set of wires, it would be a good idea to check the resistance on each, particularly looking for consistency. Just a few years ago, Bosch and Beru OEM wires were wildly inconsistent for their M102 sets, while NGK was much more consistent.

More precisely
the OEM wire harness incorporates the resistance in the connector at the plug end. MB does not use resistor wire.

why are you needing to replace them often?
My 1986 300E is on it's second set ever. I believe factory wires are Beru and not bosch. Michael |
For whatever it's worth, I run a Bosch OEM wire set bought from Autozone and Bosch H9DCO non resistor spark plugs bought from peach parts. The rotor, cap, dust cover and ignition coil are all Bosch and were purchased from MB directly. The only part of the ignition system that isn't Bosch is the module, which is Siemens. With these, my M103 runs like new. From my own experience, I'd say Bosch is the way to go, regardless of whatever the cars had when they were new.
