92 300E A/C compressor removal instructions
 
After looking at 10 pages of results from doing a search for "a/c compressor removal". I still couldn't find the "how to" instructions.

Could someone please tell me where to find DIY instructions on how to remove and replace an A/C compressor for my 1992 300E?

My trusted mechanic of 7 years said that the dye test showed leaking of R-12 from a crack at the side of the compressor.

Check from underneath the car.

It's been a while, but I recall there are four horizontal bolts holding the compressor.
Might have to move the PS out of the way, but this should be clear upon inspection.

You've got to get the front up inthe air, and go in from underneath.

i know this may sound crazy....but i once had to replace one....and my rebuilt came with a slight crack on the casing.

i got some epoxy and put it there.... hard to believe , but it solved the problem.

i pulled the original bad compressor myself, without a lift.... it just seems like you need an assortment of extensions and universal..

i wiggled it out from underneath...and got a new one in...

try the epoxy first... i did it...even though the company sent another compressor to me gratis.... it's still on my shelf

If I remember correctly, you remove the drive belt, remove refrigerant, disconnect hoses and unbolt the compressor using the bolts that hold the compressor to the block as already stated.

I've got some favors I can call in at my local MBZ recycler and can get a used compressor for $75 with a 6 mo. warranty. Since I would still have to pull the compressor to try the epoxy fix, it would seem that I might as well just install the used compressor.

Just in case I find that I can get the epoxy on the crack without having to pull it, what kind of epoxy did you use?

Where was your crack located and how long was it?

How long has the epoxy fix worked?

it was one of those two parts....never stopped working...

the dye showed the length of the crack which was a little less than an inch...naturally did a much larger area...



if you have any interest in the new rebuilt..let me know... i really don't have a need for it....although it is good to have a spare...
