Ask about the timing chain. At 81K its about due and if the guides haven't been changed in like 10 years they need to be done. This is a SERIOUS job, IMO (having just done it on a 380SL)- budget $1k to have someone else do it....

And it's a requirement that it's done quickly.

Did you end up going to buy the car? Just wondering how it all turned out?

no, i didnt end up buying it...i figured, with it being a 26 yr old car, there would most likely be lots of things needing repairs when i got to driving it regularly...i ended up buying a Dodge Durango and a nice little 14' jon boat with the money i got from my truck...and still had over $1200 left

its not a bad looking or running car...the paint isnt perfect, with some of the clearcoat fading...but the engine and transmission seemed to function just fine...the interior is pretty nice too...the wood is in very nice shape and the seats dont sag.

as far as i know, it is a 280SE badged as a 500SE...but now the dealer has since changed his ad to calling it a 300SE...its still for sale if anyone is interested...heres the new ad for it...like i said, its a pretty nice car...but i would not pay one penny over $3500 for it...and as long as it has sat there, i would imagine they will take $3000 if offered...they were ready to deal with me at $3500
