MB 300CE 1992 won't start, It try But Not start!!!!

My 300CE 1992 wont start, I checked the coil and No spark, I replaced it, same thing. I replaced the distributor cab, rotor and crank censor. Just not start. I think replace the ingnition control module but I would like to know other options. Im not a mechanic but im try to fix my car because I dont have enough money to take it to the auto shop.

If you have no spark and you've replaced all those items, and still have no spark. There is no doubt its your ignition module. They are not cheap for the 300CE.

Sounds like the EZL to me.

oscargav, a new ignition control module (EZL) from your local MB dealer will cost around $2,500. When I needed one for our daughter's 1991 300CE the MBUSA parts system showed they were backordered. The Parts Department supervisor realized the 300SL (104 engine) uses the same ignition control module, and one was available.

I tried unsuccessfully for many months to locate a used ignition control module from various salvage yards. Perhaps you will have more success. Be sure the heat-conducting paste is on the back of any ignition control module you install to prevent premature failure. Also, it's important to maintain the ignition system components (distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plugs and ignition wires) to prevent premature failure of the ignition control module.

Before going to the trouble and expense of buying a new/used ignition control module it would be best to try a borrowed one to confirm that is the problem. Our local MB dealer diagnosed that the one in our daughter's car had failed. Not sure if the average indie has the diagnostic equipment or knowledge to do the same.

just as a clarification, do you hear the engine crank over and it just won't start? or you turn the key and you hear nothing from the engine?

oscargav 03-14-2011 03:55 PM

Yes. I hear the engine crank. But not start. Appears like no spark from coil.

My guess is ICM/EZL also.Try tapping it, it's worth a try as it works for my spare. Last I checked, new EZL's were over $1k. Used are a couple hundred to as high as $800 on eBay. Make sure you get the correct or compatible part number.

Yes the engine crank but not start...

have you put 12v directly to the starter (middle pin of plug near the vac booster) to jump start?

oscargav 03-19-2011 04:15 PM

NO.. Can You tell me how do it???

oscargav, how do you know that the replacement ICM is good and not the reason the engine won't start? Did it come out of an automobile with an engine that you saw running?

I have a fried one that I could sell you and you could not tell the difference from a working one, other than the engine wouldn't start or run.
