Door locks

Alright so this car has been sitting for awhile and we just started getting it fixed, now i've begun driving it and i've noticed that now i have to open all the door locks manually from the inside (once i open the drivers door). Not like the usual when i would just have to turn the key on the drivers side and they all open/lock. It's not like it's gonna kill me lockin and unlocking them but it's much more convenient to just turn the key.

So if anyone knows what this could be please post it cause the only thing i thought it was, was the fuse and that was not it.

Thank You :D

Not sure if these are vacuum powered like the diesels are or not, but if so, look for a vacuum leak for the locking mechanism. Hope this helps.

They operate on a vacuum.

Vacuum pump might be under rear seat.

Search the site for door locks, vacuum pump, etc.

Nooo... I think this sounds like the problem with the little mechanism in the lock that should be triggering the vacuum pump, but is not. DOes everything work normally when you use the passenger door or trunk to unlock the car?

Chris17H 01-14-2002 12:15 PM

Thanks everyone, i think i may have isolated the problem. As i recall each time i enter the car theres a hissing noise coming from the rear, so hopefully that is it, and i will try and check it out asap...but in reponse to David, all of the locks do not trigger the vacuum so it does sound like it's the Vacuum.

I can't wait until i get home to try this...:D :D

One more question, to get off the back seat it looks like you just push in those red clips and lift but i was being pretty stubborn, maybe it's just a 2 person job...I just need to know if im doing it right or not.

Thank You :D :D

Lift up on clips

Greetings Chris,

You actually have to lift the red clips up slightly while applying a slight amount of pressure to the front of the seat bottom to get it to release. It goes back in with about the same difficulty.

Well i just peeked under there and i didn't find anything but coins and trash, so im thinking it might be somewhere else...does anyone know where i can get a good service maunal for a 1987 300E??

Thanks

Chances are it's in the trunk

Greetings Chris,

If it's like my 300SD the electric pump is in the trunk on the right side by the spare tire. My wife has an '86 300E and it's also in the trunk, so I'd suppose yours is there as well.

Thanks for the input, but when you say in the trunk where do you mean? Is it protected by the black shroud on the sides or is in the floor of the trunk? and how big is it, just to know where it could fit and what im looking for. Im kinda confused because i have searched everywhere

Thank You for all your previous help.:D

If like my SEC, it would be right next to the spare tire after you lift up the carpet, covered by a foam-rubber shell. Hope all goes well, Andrew Seidel.

Right side toward fuel tank by spare tire.

Greetings,

5Banger is right, as to where to look for your electric air pump. Should be as he says under the spare tire panel on the right side toward the front. Let us know if you find it. If you have someone lock the door while you listen in the trunk it will be a dead giveaway.

Hmm... if you have a w124 300e... which is what it looks like from your profile... the vacuum pump is actually under the rear seat bench. You have to lift it up, and then there is this protective/sound deadining mat, you have to take that out, and you should see the frame of the car. If you are looking towards the back of the car, you will see a grey "box" that is made of foamy rubbery material on the left. Inside this "box" is the vacuum pump. You just have to pull the top of the "box" off and you can see the pump.

Badinfo is right

Greetings and Sorry,

Badinfo is right. After looking again at the right cd-rom this time, it is on the right side under the bench bottom seat under the foam encapsulated box top. I keep thinking 126 chassis. So sorry.

Hey, thanks for the help...I just got out and did it today (it took me awhile but finally had time). All that happened was the hose fell off the pump, so i just put it back on and now it works fine

Thanks Again:D :D
