NGK PLUGS,cap and rotor?
 

hello,i just purchased some new plugs for my 89 300ce,my choices were champion, wich i think not,lol,autolite or ngk,i chose the NGK v-power copper resister type,does anyone have any experience with these plugs? im setting the gap to .032,per factory spec,anyone like these plugs,i noticed the v groove in the center of the electrode,ive been having some bad fuel economy latley,my wires look brand new,im also going to be replacing the cap and rotor,anyone have any ideas as to a good cap and rotor? other than the autozone special wich was $87.00 for the cap and $31.00 for the rotor,looked like it was made from brass. thanks.marc

The distributor sits at the top of the engine and gets hot. It's a hostile environment and you need quality parts.

I installed a cheap cap and rotor and the rotor failed after 18 months. So now I have MB-sourced cap and rotor and all's well. If you want to find the lowest prices, I would look only at Bosch or Beru.

thanks i will see if the autozone one is a bosch i have a feeling its a duralast,another question did you have a difficult time removing the third lower center screw on the distributor,im thinking of using 1/4" drive with an allen attachment,let me know if you had an easier way to remove it,as its so close to the belt and other things.

I put the Autolite plugs in because that is all they had when I went there and they have been working perfectly for more than 6 months now and only cost me $13.00. For the bottom distributor bolt, just use an alan head socket and adjust the fan to the largest gap so you can turn it. I use a pair of pliers for the first turn on the alan wrench to get it going then it comes right out...cake.

Why don't you order off of fastlane? Its cheaper and generally OEM parts are available. Just checked and a Bosch cap is $65.

I also used some of my wife's nail polish (unbeknownst to her) to mark the plug wire leads on the distributor and the plug wires as a quick reference to reconnect...

White Out works well too. But it doesn't give you an excuse to borrow your wife's nail polish. ;)

I have been using NGK plugs on an M110 engine now for about 5 years and I have absolutely no complaints. I originally installed them because Bosch no longer makes my size of plug in non-resistor, which is essential for MB engines due to the resistor plug connectors. However, I doubt wires and connectors have anything to do with your gas mileage problem. When these go bad, it´s usually indicated by missing and normally it´s the fault of the connectors and not the wires.

I agree the other guys who say use only OEM for cap and rotor.

yeah i just purchased the bosch cap and rotor from fastlane,it arrived 2 days later,very nice product and the price was about $30.00 less than autozones cap,lol about the nail polish,i think i will just use a sharpie and mark the cap posts by number and put masking tape on the wires with matched #
