central locking system

89 420 sel with 205k

About two weeks ago I unlocked the doors by using the key in the driver's door. Somebody stopped me to talk and a few minutes later I attempted to open the door and found all of the doors were locked. Since that time, every time I unlock the doors (driver's or passenger) they will stay open for about 5 seconds and then every one locks again. In addition, I can no longer get the trunk open at all. I tried the key in the lock and every thing seems smooth and functional but it will not open. The only idea I've come across reading posts involves a 2x4 and a hammer so I'm hoping someone will have another idea before it comes to that.

Sounds like a "bad" signal from 1 of the 3 switches.
Most likely the one in the trunk, since it won't open.

Yes, drilling is a possibility.

Any way to test the signal? From what I've read, there's an electrical component and the vacuum, but I haven't seen any diagrams of the electrical so I'm not sure what I'm up against.

My wife still thinks I'm doing it on purpose somehow to keep her out of the car...

Was able to fix the locking system but can't open the trunk. The release doesn't seem to be "catching." Is there anyway to get it open with conventional means? I not ready to drill it out yet... If not, should I call a locksmith or take it to the dealer?

Thanks.

They won't be able to do anything. Just for fun at the junkyard one day I attempted to open a locked W124 trunk. It won. Kudos to ANY thief who can pop a Benz trunk sans power tools.
