W201 Akebono Front Pads (1989)

Hi folks,

I've been searching high and low for Akebono ceramic pads for my 1989 190E 2.6. So far I've either found REAR ones (which I don't need), or W124 (front and rear).

Question is - would I be able to get them here? I see W123 Akebonos for my 300D (when they wear out), but not my W201.

If not, would W124 front pads work on my W201?

What's the EPC say?

Are W201 and W124 front pads the same part Number?

The W124 front brake pad set is A 000 420 99 20

The W201 front brake pad set is A 002 420 02 20

So I guess that means W124 front brake pads won't work. :(

MBeige,

You are correct. Akebono does not appear to manufacture pads for the 190E. The closest I could find for your 190E was PBR's "Ultimate Ceramic", part number is MBZ077428. PBR also makes "Metal Master" pads for the 190E.

My friend was able to get some for his 190E 2.6 years ago when he still had them. Trying to see where they can be found. If not I'll get regular good old Textar pads.

Trying to cut down on brake dust?

Yes, I've had good luck with Akebono on my 300D and my mom's 300TE. Wanted to get the same for the 190E.

Plus, I replaced the pads on the 190E in early 2009. Two years later, they need to be replaced again. I had the Akebonos put on my 300D in 2008 along with new rotors. Pads are still pretty thick.

I've got Akebono's on all four corners. Really like the performance, and no brake dust is a huge plus.

I decided to go with good old Textars this time. Oh well...
