Is there a way to find out true miles if odometer isn't working
I have a 1994 SL320 and the odometer isn't working. I'm trying to sell the car and I want to be able to prove to a buyer what the true miles are on the car.
Is there a way to hook it up to a computer at a dealership or elsewhere or a way to verify the miles? |
Nothing like that exists. If the condition of the car matches your claimed mileage and amount of mileage that you claim the odo has been broken, the buyer shouldn't have too much of a problem.

The car matches up pretty well but people freak out when the odometer doesn't work. It's a peace of mind thing I suppose. I do have a carfax on it and the mileage doesn't start going funny on it till the end of the carfax. I just would have thought that most cars could be hooked up and the computer would tell them that kind of info. Crap.

If the CarFax backs you up, that is the best you can do. Just don't overstate yourself on the issue, even though you are not trying to pull a fast one on anybody. Simply say the odometer is broken, and here is the CarFax.

Thanks John. Yeah I just try to be completely upfront with those interested.
|
Just fix the odometer. Not that big a deal if you missed a few miles.

I don't have a clue how to do that.

You will have to send the cluster to a VDO speedo repair shop.
