Or do I need to build the tool. I'm still chasing down a weird stumble that when it happens the check engine light comes on, then goes off just as fast. I hate throwing parts at problems and figure if a light comes on a code is stored. I guess could always go to the local MB shop and have them pull the codes, if any are there but wheres the fun in that:rolleyes:.

If the car is a federal version?? not California? then there aren't any codes to be read!

IF the car is a California version, then you will have a LED & button on the diagnostic connector.

Most common reason for check engine lamp on a federal version is the O2 sensor or slightly mis-adjusted fuel mixture.

Thanks for the reply MBDOC, yes it is a CA. car and i checked the connector and attempted to pull codes, got nothing. I unpluged my coolant temp connector to force a code to retrieve and that worked out just fine. I was able to clear it as well. So no codes for the stumble and I'm still stumped too. I'm thinking I need to make sure my O2 sensor is working correctly even though it has about 20K miles on it. In your experience have you ever run across a problem like mine, car runs great in all conditions then out of the blue stumbles hard on itself recovers then runs great again and repeats awhile later?
